Chapter 01
Custom parts and equipment is its own limit
This is the most commonly under-insured item on a modified bike. Exhaust, bags, bars, paint and chrome are not automatically carried at their real replacement cost by the base policy, and the gap only becomes visible after a loss.
If you have spent money on the bike beyond what it left the showroom as, that figure needs saying out loud when the policy is written.

How the three main coverages behave on a bike
Liability, collision and comprehensive exist on a motorcycle policy as they do on an auto policy, but the exposure underneath them is different. A rider has far less between them and the road, and injury severity drives claims in a way it does not for a car.
That difference is worth reflecting in the limits rather than copying the limits across from the car policy.
Roadside assistance and the long Florida ride
Cruisers, touring, sport and custom bikes all end up a long way from home on this coast. Roadside assistance on a motorcycle policy is not the same product as the one on a car policy, and it is worth confirming what it will actually send.
